Directors Statement

The Money is a drug-fueled thriller told through a looping, surreal narrative structure. When I started writing, I thought—Groundhog Day meets Requiem for a Dream, in a trailer park.

It’s a film about addiction—but not the act itself. I’ve seen that story a million times, and I wasn’t interested in making another “cool drug” movie. I wanted to focus on the aftermath: the repetition, the numbness, the time lost. That foggy, hungover moment when you realize it’s happening again—and you’re no closer to getting out.

I grew up around people whose lives slowly unraveled under addiction. I didn’t want to approach the subject with judgment or melodrama. Instead, I wanted to capture the claustrophobia of being stuck in it—mentally, physically, emotionally—and do so with dark humor and a bit of style.

I’ve spent years developing a strong visual identity in my work. But with The Money, I pushed myself to elevate the writing to match the visuals, to tell a story that feels both intimate and disorienting. The looping narrative reflects how addiction can feel—like time is slipping, like progress is an illusion—and plays into the humor of: did I really just make the same series of dumb decisions again?

This film is a creative turning point for me. It marks my return to narrative filmmaking after years behind the scenes, helping others realize their visions. I’m incredibly proud of this one—and excited to share it with the world. Preferably in a theater, on a big screen, because this thing looks and sounds amazing.
